Metallica sur un tribute Iron Maiden

Le groupe a enregistré une reprise du titre "Remember Tomorrow" à l'occasion de la sortie d'un tribute Iron Maiden. Lars a déclaré que cette chanson avait largement inspiré Metallica pour des compos comme "Fade To Black" et "Sanitarium".
Le tribute sortira uniquement en kiosques puisqu'il accompagnera le magazine Kerrang ! qui sortira le 16 juillet. Voici la tracklist ...

Comme les Mets' savent si bien nous faire tourner en bourrique, cette image a été posté sur leur site officiel ... Deux lettres seront visiblement ajoutées au fur et à mesure afin de découvrir probablement le titre du nouvel album ...
Une énigme qui serait idéale pour le commissaire Bialès ... "Qu'est ce que çà peut bien vouloir dire O.D.I.L ?!" :)

Le show a été comme chaque année diffusé en direct sur le web et le groupe nous a offert sous nos yeux une performance magistrale. Une première séance d'écoute du nouvel album s'est déroulé avant hier à Londres devant quelques journalistes spécialisés. Six titres sur dix ont été dévoilé notamment à Classic Rock Magazine, Rock Sound, The Quietus et Metal Hammer.

Et voici un résumé "track by track" histoire de vous mettre l'eau à la bouche ...



SONG #1
Titre de travail "Flamingo"

» The Quietus (it’s a good song)
• Dure entre 6 et 8 minutes
• The sound is fresh, clean and resonant
• Commence avec une intro de basse, moving rapidly from riff to riff, the song bursts with energy and ideas
• Throws in some twisty, semi-progressive riffs which could have been lifted directly from Justice
• Hammett is on fire, whipping out melodic, rapid-fire shreds over an extended solo section — almost as if he's making up for lost time
• This is METALLICA's best song in ages, perhaps since the 1980s

» Rock Sound
• Intro lente
• Reminiscent of 'Battery' in vibe
• Deux solos de guitare
• Undercurrent of melody and groove

» Metal Hammer
• Opens up on thunderous rolling drums as lead guitar meets them head on, a flaring up in stop-start motion before it pulls itself together in rushes forward in classic thrash style, all crunching 'Fight Fire With Fire' riffs and drilling beats
• It takes at least two minutes for James Hetfield's vocals to come in
• While they sound furious, this isn't the grittiest he's ever sounded, more open in tone, but while there's still a memorable vocal line for the 'chorus
• There is so much going on in the song, and so many ideas thrown in and discarded for the next one
• With galloping riffs and the return of guitar breaks rising up from out of the grooves you can hear the true METALLICA spirit, even though its as if reflected in mirrored mosaic

• Is a modernised take on 'One', all balladry at its front before a speeded-up metalstorm at the back
• Clean-picked intro which reminded of the BEACH BOYS
• Le corps de la chanson rapelle 'The Unforgiven'
• The under-solo riffage in this song — is like the chord progression behind the solo in 'Am I Evil?' — all simple, effective major-interval jumps

» Rock Sound
• Is an epic power rocker in the vein of 'The Unforgiven', 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'Sanitarium'
• It has a mid-tempo, head-banging section and some THIN LIZZY-esque twin guitar riffage

» Metal Hammer
• Is at heart an anthemic ballad
• Recalls 'Fight Fire With Fire' and 'Nothing Else Matters'
• Chiming guitar intro, airy vocals and some slightly convoluted, progressive-style bridges that mutate into urgent riffing, more galloping riffs and guitar solos
• The song has a number of different sections, but it still sounds massive

"Die Hard" / "Show Your Scars" ?

• Is a modern METALLICA song = much less fun
• Starts boringly
• Accelerates halfway through
• Enters a slightly proggy territory, all stop-start riff stabs and a clever time signature

» Metal Hammer
• Kicks off on a stop-start riff flecked with Eastern touches, as other bustling guitar lines play off each other
• Hetfield's vocals retain the power of old
• Chugging riffs come in, sounding like an army on the march, methodically shooting anyone in their path

"The Judas Kiss" / "Bow Down" ?

• Is a modern METALLICA song = much less fun
• A very '…And Justice' song
• Lengthy & unhurried
• Apart from dexterous soloing from Hammett, it's not great

» Metal Hammer
• Is reminiscent of 'Master Of Puppets' with more than a touch of SLAYER pacing thrown in
• An artillery-lobbing drum-led intro,
• It quickly sets off on marching, thrash mode
• Hetfield's spat vocals taking melodic digressions
• The song's groove carries you along as it opens up into guitar atomospherics that bring LED ZEP to mind
• It isn't quite the kind of irresistible monster they've created before, but METALLICA still prove they can still sound lean and epic at the same time
• When the track drops out into the grove mid-way though, you can imagine the chants coming from the crowds live




SONG #5
"To End this War" ?

» The Quietus (it’s a tedious song)
• Is a combination of the aimless riffery of 'St. Anger' and the pointless rock chorusing of 'Load'
• Unthreatening clean midsection which would suit VH1 down to the ground

» Rock Sound
• Features an almost RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE-esque drum 'n' bass undercurrent and lyrics about 'suicide' and 'cyanide';

» Metal Hammer
• Has another strong opening
• Uncharacteristic bouncing groove not a million miles away from RAGE AGAINST THE MA- CHINE making appearances throughout setting off sharp riffs that come up against an irregular barrage of percussion that sets it off briefly on a more melodic path and builds up once again into a thrilling riff-fest mayhem




SONG #6
"The Song" / "My Apocalypse" /
"Into the Crypt" / "Crossed that Line" ?

» The Quietus (it’s a great song)
• is a genuine slice of thrash metal
• starts fast and stays that way
• like a slower, less precise 'Battery' the song nips in and out, not outstaying its welcome
• METALLICA proving that on some level still have the necessary vitriol to impress their older fans

» Rock Sound
• is under five minutes
• is a galloping thrash attack with quirks, and a sniff of TESTAMENT about it!

» Metal Hammer
• is shorter than the others
• full of clinically sharp riffing
• SLAYER-esque parts and galloping grooves, all hustle and bustle with a tinge of Eastern melody thrown in

Pour conclure, ce nouvel opus est plein de solos classique de Kirk et avec un vrai son de batterie, la voix de James sonne bien également. Tous les morceaux ont énormement de parties différentes dans leurs structures, donnant l'impression que le quartet retrouve la vibe epique de l'epoque de leurs meilleurs albums.

Réédition de Master Of Puppets en juillet

La réédition vinyl de l'album Master Of Puppets qui devait initialement sortir à la mi-juin sortira finalement le 15 juillet en Amérique du Nord et le 7 juillet dans le reste du monde.
La réédition de ... And Justice For All est prévue pour juin.

Un Guitar Hero : Metallica serait réellement en cours de développement. Le jeu vidéo devrait sortir avant le 31 mars 2009 ! Côté technique, aucun détail. Les hardcore-gamers auront-ils droit à une version multi-instrumentale, ou seulement et simplement guitare ?
A savoir qu'un Guitar Hero : Aerosmith est actuellement en chantier.
